Alert Technology Invited to ResPublica Launch of ‘Airtight on Asbestos’ Campaign
Alert Technology are delighted to have been formally invited to the launch of ResPublica’s Airtight on Asbestos Campaign. The campaign follows the November 2019 release of their hard-hitting report Don’t Breathe In: Bridging the Asbestos Safety Gap which highlights the ever-present, serious threat to public health from asbestos.
About the Event:-
3rd February 2020 | 13:00 -15:00 |The Jubilee Room, Palace of Westminster
It has been 20 years since the use of asbestos was banned in the UK. Yet the material is still present in many of our buildings, where it remains a serious threat to public health.
The Airtight on Asbestos Campaign will showcase the potential harm which this substance continues to present, especially in our public buildings including our schools and hospitals, due to the insufficient monitoring regime in the UK.
Based on the findings of ResPublica’s most recent report, Bridging the Asbestos Safety Gap, they argue for the reform of the Health and Safety regime around the management of in-situ asbestos to accurately reflect the risk it poses to the people who work in and attend our public buildings.
Their research shows that the UK’s current asbestos monitoring standards fall significantly short of other European nations and calls for parity with these standards to better protect teachers, nurses and other members of the UK public. ResPublica’s recommendations are designed to move us towards a society free from asbestos and its associated health risks.
